Rock in the Middle
Blackwood River
Low Water Level, 11.4m DoW
Entrance to the rapid is either right or left of these ti-trees at the top, but close to them, as you have to return to centre of flow immediately below them.
Below the ti-trees return to the middle of the main flow to avoid rocks and turbulence or low water on the sides. Then go left or right to avoid the ‘rock in the middle at the bottom’ . Note the large eddy on river left at bottom of rapid.
In medium water the rock has a pour over and big hole on the downstream side which will most likely cause capsize if encountered. Please note there is foreshortening in this pic.
