Blackwood River
The Haystack Rapid often unbalances the unwary as there can be quite a SPLAT as you go through it, then there’s another bump a split second further downstream. It’s not easy to reach the smoother water river left, owing to the strength of the current pushing to the river right.
It’s possible to avoid the main drop by taking the easier chicken chute through a narrow gap in ti-trees towards river right, but only at medium to high water. This is also a shorter (therefore quicker) line than the main drop.
These pics are at low water, 11.4m, DoW at Bridgetown.
