Mandurah Ski and Kayak Club are proud to announce two of our own as Marathon WA Annual Award Winners.

Dave Berglund

Dave Berglund

Congratulations Dave on winning 65+ Male Category.

Dave is no stranger to the podium and is an outright elite paddler in his own right.

He recently competed in the Australian Master Canoe Marathon Championships in South Australia, winning Gold in the 16km K1 marathon event for over 65+ age group and backed it up with another Gold in the K1 short course and a further Gold in the K2 16km event. This has earned Dave selection to the Australian team yet again to compete in the World Championships in Croatia in September.

Dave competed in the 7 Race WA Marathon Paddling Series and based on finishing positions of the combined events, has won Overall WA Marathon Paddler of the Year for 2024.

In 2023, he represented Australia in the ICF – Canoe World Masters Marathon Championships in Denmark. Once again this was based on his stellar performance at the Australian Nationals in 2023, coming away with no less than 4 Gold medals in the over 65+ age group.

Adding to this already impressive resume of paddling, Dave was awarded the Mandurah Master Sportsman of the Year for 2023. He has been in the winning team event in the Blackwood Marathon on no less than 28 occasions. Has also won the Mandurah Ski & Kayak Club top paddler award for 2023 & 2024. Won Bronze for the 65+ group at the World Ocean Paddling Championships held in Perth in December 2023.

Peter Pawlow

Peter Pawlow

Congratulations Peter on winning the 70+ Male Category.

What an athlete! An absolute gun paddler, with his specialty being K1 & K2 marathon races.

Peter is often seen competing and winning in age groups lower than his actual 70+ age group places him. He too is no stranger to the podium, whether it be in WA or at National events.

In the WA State Championships 2019 & 2022 he once again won Gold in the K1 65+ group. Moving up to 70+ group in 2023 & 2024 Peter repeated his outstanding achievements winning Gold in the K1 events once again.

Peters outstanding achievements were recognized by Paddling WA, winning a staggering 6 state titles from 2020 to 2024.

  • 2020/2021 Master Paddler of the Year
  • 2020 Marathon Paddler of the Year 65+
  • 2021 Marathon Paddler of the Year 65+
  • 2022 Marathon Paddler of the Year 65+
  • 2023 Marathon Paddler of the Year 70+
