Skill Development for Teachers – Option 1

Are you a teacher who needs to develop and learn Paddling Skills?

Three hours of skill development on the water.

Sign up for one of our three-hour introductory skills development sessions.

Pre-requisites

No prior paddling experience is necessary.

These sessions develop paddling skills essential to achieving paddling qualifications required for school paddling activities.

Choose from two options

To make it easier, Paddle WA offers the skill development sessoins over one morning or two evenings.

This option (Option 1) allows you to complete single 3-hour morning session at the Abernethy Road Boat Ramp.

If you prefer evenings, you can choose two x 1.5 hour evening sessions on Monday 15 April and Monday 22 April, register for our Skill Development for Teachers – Option 2.

Cost

$50 + GST

Cost includes use of:

  • craft
  • paddle
  • spray deck
  • life jacket

Session content

The session will cover kayaking skills also relevant for Sit-On-Top kayaks.

strokes to manoeuvre craft:
  • Forward and reverse paddle
  • Forward and reverse sweeps
  • Draw strokes
  • Stern rudder
  • Bow rudder
  • Stopping
  • Support using back of blade
paddling posture:
  • Correct hand placement on paddle
  • Sufficient wrist movement to enable correct blade placement
  • Adequate paddle depth in water to achieve effective stroke
  • Correct paddle blade angle throughout stroke
  • Correct paddle entry and exit points with respect to craft and body position

  • Drink
  • Clothes and shoes suitable for paddling
  • Sun protection

Location

Meet at Abernethy Boat Ramp, Ascot Waters. Free parking and public toilets available at venue.
