State Sprints 2025 Lgreed Candid 3

Our Sprint State

The State Championships showcased the incredible depth of talent in our program, with so many athletes achieving personal bests and demonstrating the strength of our pathway.

It was inspiring to see five of our past Olympians still performing at such a high level, proving that experience and excellence go hand in hand.

The future of our sport is looking brighter than ever!

A huge thank you to the volunteers whose dedication and hard work made the event run smoothly.

Our 2025 State Sprint Championships were a tremendous success, with athletes thoroughly enjoying the beautiful weather and spirit of competition.

This event was proudly supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Culture (DLGSC) and Healthway. Their continued commitment to paddling in Western Australia enables us to participate, enjoy our stunning waterways, and embrace the LiveLighter message.

Thank you to Andrew Crothers for this fantastic wrap up of the event:

It was a great weekend of racing, the weather was ideal for us to get a good indication of how the athletes have been progressing and a chance for them to showcase the hard work they’ve done all year.

TID’s

Jess Walker’s TID group had some amazing results with 14 athletes from the program competing over the weekend. The State Championships marks the conclusion of the TID program and it’s great to say that most if not all have decided to continue on with Sprint. Consistent performances across the weekend from Noah Kelland and Emma Jarvis, and also worth mentioning some impressive results from Amelie England in the 1000m and Hudson Hort in the 200m. We’re really excited to see what this group can do in the future. Special mention to Shania Smee for helping herd the cats throughout the program and the weekend.

WASPS

The WASPS program saw some amazing results with more than a few personal bests, highlighting the great work they’ve put in all year.

Orlando Fonseca winning weekend very impressive and will have the eastern states guys nervous when he heads over to GP2 next week. Ellie Neervoort had an amazing weekend winning every event bar a silver in the the 200m from a fast charging Camilla Barbi. We’re very excited to see what Ellie can do at Nationals when the surf star gets a solid training block in.

Finn Carauna had a nice claim after his win in the 500m holding out a fast starting Zen Salisbury, the South West paddler also getting the win in the 1000m over a fast finishing Lachy Bean. Claudia Ketteringham continues her dominance in the 200m with another win, and personal best. She also had a great win in the 500m with surf star Zoe Moore chasing hard.

Claudia and Zoe are off to GP2 next week and we wish them all the best.

The 18’s K2’s had some great results, watch this space for Nationals as the times looked very quick.

Para’s

The Para squad all had a great weekend with strong personal bests from the entire team- Joseph Gianatti, Mark Daniels, Amy Ralph and newcomer Griffin Angelatos. Griffin’s remarkable improvements are nothing short of extraordinary with the 14 year old going under 50 seconds for the 200m having only learnt to paddle a few months ago.

Seniors

The senior team saw some amazing results again with Luke Egger leading the charge and showcasing the hard work he’s done this year his 500m and 200m times should see him well in the mix of the Australian senior mens team. Gen Stanley had an awesome weekend with wins in the 500m K2 500, 1000m and a spectacular C1 race against an evergreen Terry Bolland. Abbey Major with a personal best in the 200m and Mitch Tamblin ever consistent making progress towards a spot on the 23 worlds team.

Senior, Senior’s

The senior, senior team had some amazing performances with Jaime Roberts showing she never lost it with a solid win in the opens 200m. Josh Kippen’s win in the 1000m means he’s looking forward to the upcoming marathon season and the London Olympic duo Jesse Phillips and Steve Bird managed to make the start line.. just finishing 3rd in the fast K2 200m. Olympians Jess Walker and Lisa Russ also stepping up on the weekend and putting on some amazing performances. Shoutout to Travis England for racing his first ever Sprint regatta and jumping in last minute for some K4 racing. Its always inspiring for the younger athletes to see the legends of the sport get out and show them how it’s done.

In summary a great weekend from the athletes and a massive thank you to Michelle Major, Stu Ketteringham, Lawrence Greed and all the parents, volunteers and coaches that helped put the weekend together.

Bring on Nationals!
