Bayswater Paddlesports is seeking a dedicated and motivated coach to support athletes selected through the WA Institute of Sport (WAIS) Talent Search Program.
About the role
This position involves both on-water coaching and off-water mentorship, assisting athletes as they learn to paddle from scratch and preparing them for competition at the WA State Championships (February 2026) and Australian National Championships at Champion Lakes in March 2026. Additional coaching support will also be provided whilst athletes are gaining balance and confidence, then this support will be phased out.
The successful applicant will work with 15–20 athletes aged 13–17, delivering and coordinating sprint kayaking sessions focused on technique development, training, and race preparation. The program includes three on-water sessions per week, each running for 90 minutes to 2 hours. One session will take place on Saturday mornings, with the other two to be scheduled in consultation with the coach.
- Terms will be from Mid-September 2025 to early February 2026 (WA State Championships)
- Attend one of the 2 WAIS testing days (6 or 13 September 2025)
- Attend information night (Mid-September 2025)
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on-water coaching sessions and provide mentorship for developing sprint athletes.
- Plan and coordinate athlete participation in 1–2 local regattas and the State Championships
- Collaborate with WAIS and/or WASP coaching staff to deliver educational sessions.
- Oversee, with club support, the maintenance and functionality of all Talent Search kayaks.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Flatwater Coaching Accreditation (Foundation level or higher)
- Experience coaching athletes in a structured program.
- Current Working with Children Check
- Completion of all Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) mandatory online modules
