Flatwater Guide Course

For teachers with practical experience in guiding school trips, conducting paddling activities or similar.
A two-day instruction and assessment course for the Paddle Australia (PA) Flatwater Guide Award.
* Does not include Paddle Australia 3-year registration fee.
Pre-requisite requirements
- Flatwater (FW) paddling skills as explained in the FW Skills Award
- 5 or more FW trips + 3 paddling activities as assistant, plus
- 3 paddling activities as lead guide in the previous 3 years
Course content
This is not a skills development course. Candidates are expected have completed a Paddle WA skills Session or to have adequate paddling skills that need tweaking.
This course will cover topics such as:
- paddling guiding skills
- refining paddling technique
- rescues
- minimal impact practice
- interpreting weather and navigation
- trip intentions, float plans and risk management
- group management
choose either FW Guide Canoe OR Sit-on-top OR Kayak for the 2 day course

The course is conducted in playboats kayaks or canoes.
Paddle WA does not have canoes but we do supply kayaks and any other gear.
